it will not stop snowing since you left. my feet slide on the ice, I have to lay my feet very slowly and solidly on the ground. I sleep for twelve hours trying to make time go by. I can not think clearly. the cold is fogging me up. I want to run outside with you, gin causing our blood to rest under the surface of our skin. laughing so hard that my inner warmth is clearly visible in the cold and that my head nearly aches. I can not wait to place my hands on the warm white flesh that barely covers your thin long bones. I am of the midwest and I belong in winter, but I can not think clearly without a warm bed and strong arms around my waist.

the dark frightens me, but if you were here it would thrill me.

I am really happy that the wireless internet finally works in my parent's house. so while the snow continues to fall and I am stranded in the house, I at least able to talk to aaron in california and do shit like see what we would look like as old folk, a mucha painting, etc. (that face transformating generator is really hilarious if you have the time to dick around like I do.) yesterday I watched a very long marathon of six feet under on TV, drank a couple of mugs of yerba mate, and finished up my christmas presents. the streets have finally cleared so I can go explore the amazing highland park library and their ridiculous selection of criterion films. too good. I am currently working on a comic about all the sexual relations in my life and how they affect my anxiety disorder. it's turning out really good, my shame towards myself and my sexuality and my body is swiftly fading. I accidentally flashed my mother my bush last night (we were comparing tummies in the mirror and I was wearing PJ's and didn't realize how low I had pulled them down, it was very very funny.)

hey eva, how long are you going to be in vancouver/ what's your address there? I wanna mail you a much owed copy of the comic I just finished:

finally finished my final 21 page comic for my independent comic publishing class. enrolled for class next semester and am taking animation, a studio class taught by gladys nilsson (wife of jim nutt), an etching class and two art histories. it's a shame that all the interesting humanities and science classes always fill up so rapidly, I would like to wrap my brain around something not related to the art world. recently read skyscrapers of the midwest and it might be one of the best comics I have read this year apart from monsters by ken dahl.

I am embroidering my favorite sets of teeth onto hand-dyed old doilies for my final fibers project. those are my tooths.

I have basically living at aaron's place for the past couple of weeks. my hand can't leave his side.

too happy and too busy lately to really post here regularly. last week I saw mount eerie in a really bad venue. but it was such an amazing show, so much fog, so much drumming. it was the first time I did not get to say hello to phil at a show though, which was upsetting. drinking sassafras tea even though I was told it would lead to liver damage. it is getting so bitter and nippy outside. aaron took that photo. I'm really happy he exists, to say the least. we biked eleven miles the other day.

claire and I got home at 6:45 in the morning, still a little drunk and scowled at the chicago marathon runners being awake and healthy. that sunday I went out to dinner with my mother and devoured a plate of mussels. we then saw kathy griffen at the chicago theater. which was great, she told alot of dick jokes.

I don't know if it's the loop dehumanizing me as talya suggests. but the city is really giving me the blues. I was home in the suburbs for the weekend and I can not express the peace I felt to sleep in complete silence and awake to gold sunlight peeking through my window and my cat curled beside me. to drive through the forest perserves and see leaves already letting out their little swan songs. instead of the mourning doves I have sirens and a jackhammer. instead of silence and empty streets, I have to dodge human traffic to get somewhere. I don't want to see another person with shopping bags or have another man ask me for change that I DO NOT HAVE BECAUSE I AM A POOR STUDENT DO YOU NOT SEE THE TWO DOLLARS SHOES CUTTING INTO MY FEET?

I'm going to retreat this winter. I want to rent a cabin (with whatever dream money, right) and have a little gas stove to myself. maybe a cat. alot of wool blankets. I miss icicles. shit I am a sap.

"OH MOUNTAINS!" I watched an interview with stan brakhage today and he discussed how he was afraid of nature because of his asthma and how it destroyed any romantic notion of the mountains he lived in with his wife. however, it left him respecting nature out of fear. I want this type of humbling experience.
I want nature to frighten me into realizing just how fragile I am.

last night I went to a small calvin johnson show at the heaven gallery. it was so intimate & groovy. he danced his little tushie off & crooned so good. jessica told him he looked sharp then he said that we looked "dapper." what a sweetheart & a ham. wow, & the day after there is youtube footage, I was right up in front, so good:

finally finished my first lithostone & it is ready for printing. today I wove snake skin, rabbit fur, & dried baby's breath on the table loom.

my fridge never feels like it has enough food & I have $20 in my wallet for another week. thank god for wolfie at molly's & his trading system of free goodies for minor labor.

I saw cocorosie friday & that was magical. eating my fill of good meals, had my first class with jeremy tinder & that was really wonderful.

oh & my fibers teacher's a priest with a habit of singing everything in a high-pitch manner. he is my teacher soulmate. he makes these amazing sculptures out of found objects (he is currently doing work for a show that is opening soon where he is crocheting shredded american flags together). I learned how to make rope, to warp thread for a loom & will begin weaving tomorrow. I also smashed my middle finger on a grinder when I was preparing a stone for lithography last week.

I am a warrior.

I'm going to shower & finish my required reading for my golden age of comics class then get pizza.

labor day was full of fat tire & sweet potato chips. I went swimming in a very deep pool & the pressure had me almost completely deaf & frightened for four hours after.

went to olafur eliasson's exhibition at the chicago MCA. so good! a room with a wall covered in raindeer moss, a yellow hallway that turns you black & white, so many plays on color & light. a good experience but I couldn't help singing verses from this song:

upstairs there was a great collection of paintings from the MCA's collection. I totally wanted to pocket three pieces from this woman:
clare rojas. I love her really witty gouache paintings & all the penn dutch motifs. got free soup from hull house finally. got to see their urban farm & it is so pretty. huge kale & cabbages, heirloom tomatoes.

I highly recommend this documentary, after viewing it my brain could not stop spiraling.

it made me cry & grind my teeth at the same time. so beautiful & so infuriating.

this is also very very good. paul dano could act even when he was a little younger than my brother. he is magic.

I am going to ontario in three days for a whole week. I will be doing nothing but drinking canadian beer, running barefoot, swimming in the lake, reading, & wandering the woods for the entire week.

I got the new mount eerie album in the mail yesterday & am so amazed by how big & frightening it is. it sounds like a forest fire. like phil's voice is a small bird or mammal running for cover.

mad tat claire drew for me while we waited for wavves to play.

so I went to pitchfork guys, for all three days. needless to say it totally killed me & I slept almost an entire day away to recover.

here's a small recap:

DAY ONE

went to pilsen to pick jordan up & waited outside of the gates for forty-five mintues for them to open. went straight towards the stage where yo la tengo would play & patiently waited. some annoying kids behind us were having the best conversation, "you know pavement is obsessed with neil young? so is built to spill." add bald high school kid with braces & a peace sign tat on his scrawny chest hitting a joint & grinning to his friends. add, "oh they're so OLD!" when yo la tengo hit the stage. yeah, the only bearable people in the crowd were the old hipster married couples with their kids (so cute.)

yo la tengo were awesome, I have total respect for ira kaplan's guitar playing. he looked like he was fighting some guitar demon. they played all ten mintues of "pass the hatchet, I think I'm goodkind." and the bass line was stuck in my head all night.

DAY TWO

woke up early & drove to lake zurich to pick up emily & claire. took a long train ride to the city & walked around looking for this seedy diner where we had breakfast last year. ended up finding it after an hour of searching & ate some totally greasy hashbrowns & sunny-side eggs. FUEL FOR THE FIRE. got to pitchfork & sat through some shitty band called the antlers (really original name guys). all the songs were full of boring indie-rock melodrama & about how "we're so fucked" & "you're in a hospital bed." so lame. but I sat through it for bowerbirds who I was very excited to see. just as good live with their impressive stand-up bass & accordian.

then we scurried over to where final fantasy was setting up. it was by far the most surprisingly impressive show of the festival. owen played like an angel, I almost wish he was performing at a different venue, because I think that the people camping out on their lawn chairs with their books really didn't appreciate his performance all that much. he hit some notes that gave me tha shiverzzz.

then we ran over for wavves. ok before I run on a wonderful rant about how much I love wavves & nathan williams & have total sympathy for his little barcelona meltdown & how they are the perfect summer band, I guess during ponytail's set before them the baracade broke. so the security told us in the front to move back fifteen feet while they attempt to fix it (which williams replied to with a "no don't listen to him" shake of the head & shit-eating grin.) they totally mcgyvered the fence by fixing it with plastic garbage ties & ladders & whatever heavy metal shit was lying around. anyway, the crowd was super antsy by the time wavves were ready to play. needless to say they did not disappoint. it was the best show of the festival in my opinion, everyone was dancing & rocking & it the vibe was like the old local punk shows I used to go to when I was in high school in south florida. all that rocking & keeping up with the boys did leave a toll:

got some gnarly bruises on my knees & cuts on my stomach from the plastic ties on the stupid mcgyver fence.

so wavves definitely is keeping me in optimistic music spirits. I love william's obsession with goths & demons & his stoner humor. plus the lo-fi surfer sound is just so pretty to my trashy ears. it's so nice to see some rock kids with some sincere attitude. honestly. plus he is just cute as a button.

saw beirut, it was pretty. zach condon put a flower that was thrown on stage in his mouth. he probaubly got laid that night.

DAY THREE

neck was KILLING from wavves. didn't get into the city till three then had to run over to union park to meet up with emily & claire. no band seriously impressed me. the vivian girls were really good but the crowd was horrible. (like forty year old men trying to have a conversation with me very aggressively.) & all the people camping out?! in crowds?! I don't understand this, you pay 75$ for the weekend & you sit around picnic style while kids crowd around you to rock? I am not going on a sunday ever again. the flaming lips were what I expected but I wish the crowd was smaller so I could have truely enjoyed the spectacle:

so that was pitchfork. kind of worth the money, kind of not.

in other news I got approached by a man saying he was my neighbor while I was in my car while he held a flashlight to my face, all at one-thirty in the morning. so now I'm scared of my neighbors.

& my brother dislocated his shoulder for the eighth time:

so now he has to get surgery. & can't skateboard for a year. BUMMER.

a couple of notes:
-thank god for nasal saline spray. I'm like a coke head & am developing this habit of clearing the shit out of my sinuses. or maybe I'm just nostalgic for the feeling of water up my nose reminiscent of days swimming in the pool & choking on chlorine.

-good mail is the best pick me up. wonderful letters from friends & writing them back is the best summer hobby. I ordered the new opaon e.p. & got the sweetest package from phil elverum & a sweet hand-written note from genevieve:

it's so sweet that they take the time to personally write out everything. it surprising how happy it made me. (plus the record is gorgeous.)
- I want to drape myself in alexander mcqueen's diamond prints & go into camoflauge in some crystal cave:

-two months until I'm back living in the city with my favorite sisters knitting & drawing & making vats of soup. I miss the company so much.
-I am offically going to canada & minnesota for a week in august with my family to live in the wilderness & visit family, I am so happy to catch frogs & get my feet dirty.

I'm so glad for summer. my shoulders are freckling again. I sleep when I want, I drink sun tea, I ride the bike. my feet are almost always a little dirty. my shorts are always up to my navel. and all I want to do is drink beer, eat watermelon, & boogie.

I'm miss my chicago family so much though. I wish it was next summer in our future apartment/house with kitties & always records playing & creative lady forces mingling. I miss my bitchy sisters.

drawing comics almost every day, sewing a giant snowy white yak, I need to document my work & start posting it. I don't know why it's so hard for me to do that. my winter fat is melting off & I can feel bone & muscle again. I'm cooking beans & grilling pineapple regularly.
